🧠 In this study, we uncover a novel pharmacological action of memantine, a well-known FDA-approved drug for Alzheimer’s disease. Beyond its established role as an NMDA receptor antagonist, we show that memantine also inhibits calcium-permeable AMPA receptors (CP-AMPARs)—key players in neurodegenerative and neurodevelopmental disorders.
Proud to be part of this interdisciplinary collaboration with researchers at UTHealth and Johns Hopkins University!
Participation at the XXI SEQT National Meeting – Seville, June 2025
From June 15 to 18, 2025, Dr. Andreea Larisa Turcu and PhD student Alba López participated in the XXI National Meeting of the Spanish Society of Medicinal Chemistry (SEQT), held in Seville.
This biennial congress brought together researchers from academia and industry to share recent advances in medicinal chemistry and drug discovery
Their active participation reflects the lab’s commitment to high-impact research and scientific outreach within the medicinal chemistry community.

Medicinal Chemistry team-building day
The Medicinal Chemistry team stepped away from the lab for a well-deserved day of fun and relaxation in Castelldefels. We enjoyed a variety of ball games and concluded the day with a cheerful shared lunch.
